Whitby, Ontario – In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Regional Municipalities of Durham and York (the Regions) have received a temporary Emergency Amendment to the Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) to process an additional 20,000 tonnes of garbage, for an annual total of 160,000 tonnes of garbage until December 31, 2020.

Whitby, Ontario – On Saturday, July 20, an external electrical power trip and subsequent recovery procedures led to an exceedance of the four-hour rolling average limit for carbon monoxide (CO) at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC).
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipalities of Durham and York have begun the Environmental Screening Process to increase the amount of waste processed each year at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) by 20,000 tonnes.
Whitby, Ontario – On Saturday, May 4, a carbon monoxide (CO) spike led to an exceedance of the four-hour rolling average limit at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC). The limit is set at 40 mg/Rm3 (milligrams per reference cubic metre). The CO levels were 45 mg/Rm3. CO is monitored as an operational parameter indicating combustion performance at the facility. All other emissions remain within compliance limits.

WHITBY, ON – The Regional Municipality of Durham is seeking individuals to serve as members of the Energy-From-Waste – Waste Management Advisory Committee (EFW-WMAC). This is a volunteer position that provides advice to the Works Committee on issues such as waste diversion, waste management, environmental performance and monitoring of the Durham York Energy Centre (energyfrom-waste facility).
